Principal Gao, Ms Li, Mr Liu, Ms. Yang, teachers, parents, students, Good afternoon
and Thank you for welcoming me back to your beautiful city and this impressive
school.
尊敬的高校長、李女士、劉先生、楊女士,親愛的老師、家長、同學們,大家下午好!感謝
大家給我這次機會讓我再度來到這座美麗的城市和這所令人留連忘返的校園。
Yesterday, I spent the day in classes, meeting students, and talking with teachers. I
am pleased to report that in just the first few months, SGIS at SHS is running
strong. It embraces the main themes and goals of SGS in Washington State.
昨天在這里我用了一整天的時間和學生見面,與老師溝通交流。今天,我很高興地向大家匯
報,在短短幾個月的時間內(nèi),雙流中學實驗學校圣喬治國際敎育中心運行地十分成功。它很
好地融入了華盛頓州圣喬治學校辦學的主旨和目標。
Our students want to learn. They are willing to ask for help. And they recognize that
with directed effort, they can improve. They learn what they love and they don’t give
up. Students who do that are destined to do well.
我們的生愿意去學習,他們想得到幫助。他們知道,只要在老師的指導下不斷努力,便可
以進歩。他們會去學習自己所熱愛的事物,并永不言棄。能夠做到這一點的學生注定會成功
Though the campuses are far apart, there are three characteristics that we share.
The first is an excellent, caring faculty. The second is small classes. The third is a
modern curriculum.
雖然我們兩個校區(qū)相距萬里,但我們卻有著相近的特質(zhì)。第一,是雄厚的師資和富有愛心的
教師團隊;第二,是小班敎學的模式;第三,是現(xiàn)代化的課程體系。
People are what make a school. We can have the best classrooms, the most modern
equipment, and the fanciest computers (and we have all of those! I hope you will be
impressed on the tour!), but without excellent teachers, the rest is only window
dressing.
「人」是學校之所以成為學校的根本。即便我們擁有最好的敎室,最先進的設備和電腦(這
些我們都有,大家在稍后的參觀中一定會被驚艷到的),但如果沒有好的老師,這一切都只
是櫥窗里的擺設。
I have had a chance to meet the staff and they are excellent. They know their
subjects and they care deeply about their students. A strong, caring faculty is the
most important characteristic that SGIS at ShuangLiu HS has to offer.
我也與各位老師進行了溝通交流,他們都很優(yōu)秀。老師們不僅了解自己的課程并且非常關心
學生。雄厚的師資和富有愛心的教師團隊是雙中實驗校圣喬治國際教育中心所必備的最重要
的特質(zhì)。
Encouraging relationships is the second most important characteristic. What our
method of education has to offer is that we will know your students and we will care
about your students.
激勵合作的關系是第一個最重要的特質(zhì)。我們的教育模式應該是了解并關心我們的學生。
Small classes allow our teachers to get know students well. They know students’
strengths and areas that need improvement. They know what interests students.
小班教學便是我們的老師更好了解學生的方式。我們知道學生的長處和需要改進的地方,
以及學生的興趣所在。
Small classes also mean that students are called upon to contribute every day. As a
student told me yesterday morning, she feels that she knows the material better
because she is engaging with the teacher and her classmates every class.

能更好的掌握教材,因為每堂課都是一次與老師和同學交流的過程。
There is a respect between students and teachers that allows both to perform at
their best. SGIS at Shuangliu is set up to inspire these encouraging relationships.

際教育中心就是為了激發(fā)這樣的關系而設立的。
The third characteristic that makes SGIS at Shuangliu HS successful is a curriculum
that is geared toward the modern world.
現(xiàn)代化的課程體系是使得雙中實驗校圣喬治國際教育中心成功的第三個特質(zhì)。
Students not only learn calculus, they also learn Solid-works – a program for 3D
design. This is one of the objects they designed yesterday. Then they printed it on
the 3D printers. [Show object]
學生不僅學習微積分,還有3D打印課程。請看,這就是他們昨天設計并打印的作品。
They not only read English, but also speak it, breaking it down into its component
parts so that, one day, they will sound fluent. They read about Physics and then
apply what they have read in a state of the art lab.
在英語課上,學生們學習英語閱讀和口語,學習如何把長句拆分成小的意群,并運用到實際
的交流溝通中,使他們的口語更流利。在物理課上,他們學習理論知識并在實驗室進行操作
和應用。
This is a hands-on, design-based curriculum that will prepare students to succeed
for jobs that may not even exist yet. They will be prepared because they know how
to think and to communicate with people and with machines.
整個課程體系注重學生的動手能力和設計能力,它能讓學生更從容地面對未來更具有挑戰(zhàn)和
創(chuàng)造性的工作。他們將會明白如何去思攷,如何與他人溝通,與機器交互,與這個時代相連
I love what we do, I hope you can see that. I know you are here to find the best fit
for your child.
我熱愛我們所做的一切。希望通過本次活動大家可以更深入地了解雙中實驗圣喬治教育中心。
在這里有最適合孩子的學習環(huán)境。
I admit that some children are best suited to a classroom where a teacher tells them
what is right and then the students repeat that over and over. That is not our way.
At Saint George’s we believe that students need to think for themselves.
我承認,在以老師為主導的課堂教學中,有的孩子在接受教師的指令并完成制定任務方面表
現(xiàn)優(yōu)異,但圣喬治教育中心擯棄傳統(tǒng)的課堂教學,轉而著重培養(yǎng)學生的獨立思考能力。
Our students are prepared to go on to college and find jobs that will require them to
do more than memorize.
在這樣的教育模式下培養(yǎng)的學生會更適應未來國外大學的教育和工作。
They will be prepared to decode, analyze, and synthesize information and problems
so that they can create, compute, and communicate their innovative ideas and
solutions!
在學習中,他們解讀信息、分析信息、歸納總結和處理問題的能?得到培養(yǎng),這使得我們的
學生在創(chuàng)造力、計算能力、溝通能力、創(chuàng)新能力和執(zhí)行力方面更勝一籌。
We help our students find their strengths so that they can contribute to the world.

How do I know this Saint George’s type curriculum works? First, I am a product of
it. I had excellent teachers who taught me to think for myself. I love to learn!
我是如何了解到圣喬治的課程運作模式呢?首先,我自己就是圣喬治的敎學模式下培養(yǎng)出來
的學生。在我的學生時代,我遇到了優(yōu)秀的老師,他們教會我如何自我探究并讓我衷心地熱

Second, have heard from graduates about how well prepared they are. I have a son
who graduated from SGS two years ago and is now at Columbia University.

現(xiàn)在就讀于美國哥倫比亞大學。
He told me that his English class in college is run exactly the way his English class
in high school was. My son feels well prepared.

Third, I have met doctors, computer scientists, lawyers, engineers, CEOs, sales
people, and even teachers who tell me that their education at SGS set the
foundation for their success.
另外,從圣喬治畢業(yè)的學生有的成為了醫(yī)生、計算機專家、律師、?程師、公司的 CEO、
銷售人員等等,他們都跟我提到圣喬治的教育是他們現(xiàn)在從事工作的基石。
Preparation is what we do. We are preparing students for college and for life.

My question for you is, what do you want your child to be? I hope you will come to
SGIS at Shuangliu HS where our excellent, caring teachers will encourage and
engage them with a curriculum that will prepare them for college and for the
modern world.
